As if peeling/flaying (若剝: the lower character has the fanqie *bang* + *[jue]*; Zheng Xuan's commentary on the *Odes* says: "剝 means to pare or peel"; the *Guangya* says: "To strip off"; the *Cangjiepian* says: "To remove its skin"; the *Shuowen* says: "To split; to cut and sever; it takes 刀 [knife] as radical and 彔 as phonetic"; 彔 has the pronunciation *lu*).
