Weeds and tares (蕛稗: the upper character has the fanqie *di* + *xi*; Guo Pu's commentary on the *Erya* says: "稊 resembles tares, spreading over the ground and growing as noxious weeds"; the lower character has the fanqie *pu* + *mai*; Du Yu's commentary on the *Zuozhuan* says: "Tare (稗) is a weed resembling rice grain"; the *Shuowen* says: "It takes 禾 [grain] as radical and 弟 as phonetic").
