購贖（上鈎候反廣雅購償也說文以財贖物也形聲字也下常燭反尚書金作贖刑王肅注云以金贖罪也說文從貝𧷓聲𧷓音育從冏從[山/六][山/六]古文陸字也今從賣誤也實難改正也）。

購贖 (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 鈎 + 候 [gòu]. The Guangya says: "購 means to compensate." The Shuowen says: "To redeem an item with wealth." It is a phono-semantic character. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 常 + 燭 [shú]. The Shangshu says: "Gold was made the punishment of redemption." Wang Su's commentary says: "Redeeming a crime with gold." The Shuowen says it takes the cowrie radical [貝] and has 𧷓 as its phonetic component; 𧷓 has the sound of 育 [yù], and consists of 冏 and [山/六]; [山/六] is the ancient character for 陸. Today writing it with 賣 is an error, but it is truly difficult to correct.)
