Crested myna (鴝鵒: the upper character has the fanqie g[ù] + [j]ū; the lower character has the fanqie r[óng] + [zh]ú. Character dictionaries standardly write it as 鴝, while the treatise text writes 𮭠, which is a vulgar character. Gu Yewang says: 'The crested myna (鴝鵒) is a bird resembling the blackbird, with two feather crests on its head.' The Kaogongji says: 'The crested myna does not cross the Ji River.' The Shuowen says: 'Both characters take niǎo as radical; jù and gǔ are both phonetics').
