Ascending steps (上蹬: the lower character has the fanqie d[ēng] + [d]èng; the Guangya says: '蹬 means to step up.' Character dictionaries say: '蹬 means to raise up.' The Wenzi dianshuo says: '蹬 means to ascend; it takes zú as radical and dēng as phonetic'; it is also written as 隥).
