聰叡 (The first character has the fanqie pronunciation 麤 + 公 [cōng]. The commentary on the Shijing says that 聰 means 'to hear'. The Han school commentary on the Shijing says it means 'clear-sighted'. Kong [Anguo's] commentary on the Shangshu says it means 'to listen'. The Shuowen says it means 'to examine closely'; it has the radical 耳 with 怱 as its phonetic element; 怱 has the same pronunciation. The second character has the fanqie pronunciation 營 + 惠 [ruì]. The Shangshu says: '叡 makes sagacity.' The Guangya says it means 'wisdom'.
