聰慢（上麤公反毛詩傳云聰聞也韓詩云聰明也說文明察也從耳怱省聲下蠻辦反孔注尚書慢輕典教也說文慢惰也從心曼聲也）。

Keen-eared and haughty (聰慢; the first character is 麤 + 公. The *Mao Shi Commentary* states: "聰 means hearing." The *Han Shi* states: "聰 means bright and perceptive." The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "Bright observation. Composed of 'ear' (耳) and an abbreviation of 怱 as the phonetic." The second character is 蠻 + 辦. Kong [Anguo]'s commentary on the *Shangshu* states: "慢 means to slight canonical teachings." The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "慢 means indolent. Composed of 'heart' (心) and 曼 as the phonetic").
