Beating and striking (撾打): the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 竹 + 蝸. The Kaosheng says: 'Zhuā means to strike.' The Shenglei says: 'Zhuā means to beat.' The Wenzidian shuo says: 'It takes the radical 水 (water) with 過 as phonetic.' The second character is 丁 + 冷. The Kaosheng says: 'To strike; the orthographic form is written [打-丁+鼎].'
