俳優（上敗埋反下郁牛反杜注左傳俳優調戲也顧野王云俳優者樂人所為戲笑自以怡悅也說文俳戲也優倡也二字竝從人非憂皆聲）。

Actors and entertainers (俳優): the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 敗 + 埋; the second character is 郁 + 牛. Du's Commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: 'Páiyōu means jesting and entertainment.' Gu Yewang says: 'Actors and entertainers are what musicians do to make jokes and laughter, bringing pleasure to themselves.' The Shuowen says: 'Pái means jesting; yōu means entertainer. Both characters take the radical 人 (person), and 非 and 憂 are respectively phonetic.'
