磔手（知厄反廣雅磔猶開也張也案磔手者張其手取大指中指所至為量也從石作磔正也論文從手作搩音桀非磔字義也）。

Hand-span (磔手: the first character has the fanqie 知厄; the Guangya says: '磔 means to open; it also means to spread out.' We note: 磔手 means spreading open one's hand and taking the distance reached from the thumb to the middle finger as a measure. Writing it with [the semantic component] "stone" as 磔 is correct. In the treatise it is written with "hand" as 搩, which is pronounced 桀 and does not carry the meaning of the character 磔).
