鄙陋（上碑美反杜注左傳云鄙邊邑也史記云去國都遼遠所為鄙俗也說文從邑[圖-囗]聲下樓豆反考聲陋亦鄙也賤也說文陋陿也從𨸏[└@丙]聲）。

Rustic and mean (鄙陋: the first character has the fanqie 碑美; Du Yu's Commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '鄙 means a border town.' The Shiji says: 'Being far from the capital, it becomes vulgar and rustic.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Formed from [the semantic component] "settlement" (邑) and has [圖-囗] as phonetic.' The second character has the fanqie 樓豆; the Kaosheng says: '陋 also means vulgar; it means mean/lowly.' The Shuowen jiezi says: '陋 means narrow. Formed from [the semantic component] "hill/mound" (𨸏) and has [└@丙] as phonetic.').
