Hard and stiff (堅鞕: the second character has the fanqie 額更; character dictionaries say: '硬 means solid.' The Kaosheng says: 'Hard.' The Wenzidian shuo says: 'Formed from [the semantic component] "leather" (革) and has 更 as phonetic; it is also written as 䩕 or 硬.').
