憍傲（上矯喬反顧野王曰憍謂自矝伐縱恣媟慢也蒼頡篇憍溢也說文從心喬聲下敖詰反杜注左傳云傲憚不敬也廣雅亦慢也說文倨也從人敖聲論從心作慠非也）。

Arrogant and haughty (憍傲; the first character is 矯 + 喬. Gu Yewang states: "憍 refers to boasting of oneself, licentiousness, and disrespectful insolence." The *Cang Jie pian* states: "憍 means overflowing with excess." The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "Composed of 'heart' (心) and 喬 as the phonetic." The second character is 敖 + 詰. Du [Yu]'s commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* states: "傲 means dreadless and disrespectful." The *Guangya* also states: "Haughty and insolent." The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "Haughty. Composed of 'person' (人) and 敖 as the phonetic." In the treatise it is written with 'heart' as 慠, which is incorrect).
