佞歌(奴定反佞諂媚也說文巧媚高材曰侫又偽善曰侫字從女從仁論語惡夫侫者此即從女人義左傳寡人不侫不能事父兄此則從仁之義)。
佞歌 (nìng in fanqie: 奴 + 定. Nìng means flattery. The Shuowen says: “Artful flattery and clever eloquence are called nìng; hypocritical goodness is called nìng.” The character is composed of 'woman' [nǚ] and 'benevolence' [rén]. In the Analects: “I detest those who are artfully flattering”; this takes the sense from 'woman'. In the Zuozhuan: “I, lacking ability (nìng), am unable to serve my father and elder brother”; this takes the sense from 'benevolence').
