婆羅門 [brāhmaṇa] (This transcription is corrupt and abbreviated; it should properly be *brāhmaṇa*. The meaning is 'one who practices and follows the Great Dharma.' People of this caste say of themselves that they were born from Brahmā's mouth; because they are superior among the four castes, they exclusively took Brahmā's name. They exist only in the Five Indias and not in other countries. The 'brahmacārin' [梵志] in the sūtras is also this name; properly it means 'pure descendant,' meaning they are the offspring of Brahmā).
