Lamp light [鐙明] (the first character is pronounced *de* + *teng* [dēng]. The *Hanshu* states: 'At night they set up lamps and candles; the fire kindled in orchid-scented [oil].' Commonly written with "fire" [火] as 燈. The *Wenzi dianshuo* states: 'It takes "metal" [金] as semantic classifier and has *deng* [登] as phonetic component').
