Pus and blood [膿血] (pronounced *nu* + *dong* [nóng]. The *Shenglei* states: 'Ruptured blood from boils and ulcers.' The *Shuowen* states: 'Swelling blood; it takes "blood" [血] as semantic classifier and has an abbreviated *nong* [䢉] as phonetic component.' In the sūtra text it is written as 盥, which is an archaic character).
