如燈滅（上音登或從火作燈俗文傳通用說文錠也錠即燈也無足曰鐙有足曰錠或從拱作[登-(前-刖)+廾]或從瓦作㽅皆古字）。

Like an extinguished lamp [如燈滅] (the first character is pronounced *deng* [dēng]. It is also written with "fire" [火] as 燈, a popular character in common circulation. The *Shuowen* states: 'Ding [錠]; ding is deng [lamp]. One without feet is called deng [鐙]; one with feet is called ding [錠].' It is sometimes written with 廾 as [登-(前-刖)+廾], or with "earthenware" [瓦] as 㽅; these are all ancient characters).
