Horse whip and tall steed [枚䭷] (the first character is pronounced *mei* + *bei* [méi]. Du [Yu]'s commentary on the *Zuozhuan* states: 'Mei means a horse whip.' The second character is pronounced *mao* [máo]. The *Kaosheng* states: 'Mao means a horse that is swift and tall.' The *Shuowen* notes it is a phono-semantic character. *Jun* [駿] is pronounced *[han]* + *dong* [jùn]).
