Elderly matron (老姆): [The second character is read with the fanqie] 矛候. Zheng's commentary on the Yili states: 'A woman who has reached the age of fifty without children, who has left her husband's home and does not remarry, and who is capable of teaching others the proper Way; it also refers to a female instructor.' The Gujin zhengzi states it takes 女 as radical and 母 as phonetic.
