懾伏（上詹涉反賈注國語云懾亦伏也鄭注禮記懾猶怯惑也說文云失聲也從心聶聲也音聶粘輒反）。

Cowed and submissive (懾伏: the first character has the fanqie 詹涉 [zhān + shè -> zhé]; Jia's commentary on the *Guoyu* says: "*Zhe* (懾) also means to submit." Zheng's commentary on the *Liji* says: "*Zhe* is like being fearful and bewildered." The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: "Losing one's voice; it takes the 'mind' radical with *nie* (聶) phonetic." The sound of 聶 is the fanqie 粘輒 [zhān + zhé -> niè]).
