舂炊（上束鍾反周禮云舂擣也世本云雍父作臼杵舂也說文擣粟也從廾持杵臨臼也下出垂反莊子云數米而炊也說文炊爨也從火欠聲爨音麤亂反）。

Pounding and cooking (舂炊: the first character has the fanqie 束鍾 [shù + zhōng -> chōng]; the *Zhouli* says: "*Chong* (舂) means to pestle." The *Shiben* says: "Yongfu invented the mortar and pestle to pound grain." The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: "To pound grain; it shows two hands holding a pestle over a mortar." The second character has the fanqie 出垂 [chū + chuí -> chuī]; *Zhuangzi* says: "Counting the rice grains before cooking." The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: "*Chui* means culinary cooking; it takes the 'fire' radical with *qian* (欠) phonetic." Culinary cooking (*cuan* 爨) has the fanqie 麤亂 [cū + luàn -> cuàn]).
