癡冥（上恥知反前第二卷已釋下覓瓶反考聲冥暗也郭注爾雅昧也鄭注禮記云不能明也說文幽也從日從六日數十十六日而月始虧幽暗冖覆也冖音覓經文作冝非也）。

癡冥 (upper character: *chi* + *zhi* fanqie; already explained above in Fascicle 2. Lower character: *mi* + *ping* fanqie; the *Kaosheng* says: '冥 means dark.' Guo's commentary to the *Erya* says: 'Dim.' Zheng's commentary to the *Liji* says: 'Unable to be bright.' The *Shuowen* says: 'Obscure, hidden; derived from 日 and 六; the number of days is ten and six, for on the sixteenth day the moon begins to wane; obscure darkness; 冖 means covering.' The pronunciation of 冖 is *mi*. In the sūtra text it is written as 冝, which is incorrect).
