稽留（上涇溪反考聲稽滯也古文作乩又作卟本作禾又作𮂱說文稽留止也從旨𮂱聲也禾木初生頭曲未能上也又音礙義訓同下留力稠反考聲留止也說文止田也從田[留-田]聲也卯音柳經作㽞或作𤲢又作㽜皆訛也）。

稽留 (jīliú; the upper character has the fanqie 涇溪 [jī]; the Kaosheng says it means to be delayed; in ancient script it is written as 乩, or as 卟, originally written with 禾, and also as 𮂱; the Shuowen jiezi says it means to delay and halt; it is composed of 旨 with 𮂱 giving the sound; it depicts the sprouting head of grain being bent and not yet able to rise up; it is also pronounced ài, with the same meaning; the lower character has the fanqie 力稠 [liú]; the Kaosheng says it means to stop; the Shuowen jiezi says it means to halt in the fields; it is composed of 田 [field] with the upper part of 留 giving the sound; 卯 has the sound liǔ; in the sūtra it is written as 㽞, 𤲢, or 㽜, all of which are errors).
