燒煉 (shāoliàn; the character liàn has the fanqie 歷殿 [liàn]; the Yunying says it means melting metal, with the fanqie 傷斫 [shuò]; the Shuowen jiezi says that written with 金 as 鍊, it means smelting metal; it is composed of 金 [metal] with 柬 giving the sound; in ancient script it is written as 柬, with the character 柬 composed with 八; writing it with 東 is incorrect).
