匠瑩拭（上[打-丁+嗇]樣反考工記攻木之工匠人也考聲曰工巧人也凡從事曰匠說文木工也從匚音方從斤匚者所作器也次縈敻反廣雅瑩磨也謂摩拭珠玉使發光明也韻英摩拭也從玉從𤇾省聲也下昇軄反郭璞注爾雅拭拭所以為清潔也鄭注禮記拭淨也古今正字云從手式聲也或作試敻音呼瑩反）。

匠瑩拭 (jiàng yíng shì; the upper character has the fanqie [打-丁+嗇]樣 [jiàng]; the Kaogongji states: 'The craftsman who works wood is the carpenter [jiàng]'; the Kaosheng says: 'A skilled artisan; in general, one engaged in a craft is called jiàng'; the Shuowen jiezi says it is a woodworker, composed of 匚, pronounced fāng, and 斤 [axe], where 匚 represents the vessel produced; the next character has the fanqie 縈敻 [yíng]; the Guangya says that yíng means to polish, referring to buffing jade and pearls to make them luster; the Yunying says it means to rub and polish; it is composed of 玉 [jade] with an abbreviated 𤇾 giving the sound; the lower character has the fanqie 昇軄 [shì]; Guo Pu's commentary on the Erya says that shì means that by which one cleanses; Zheng's commentary on the Liji says that shì means to wipe clean; the Gujin zhengzi says it is composed of 手 [hand] with 式 [shì] giving the sound; it is also written as 試; the character 敻 has the fanqie 呼瑩 [huò]).
