翹足（祇遙反廣雅翹舉也郭璞注爾雅云翹翹懸危也毛詩同說文翹長尾也羽也從羽堯聲也古作曉）。

翹足 (qiáozú; the upper character has the fanqie 祇遙 [qiáo]; the Guangya says that qiáo means to lift up; Guo Pu's commentary on the Erya says that qiáoqiáo means raised high or suspended precariously, as in the Shijing; the Shuowen jiezi says that qiáo means long tail feathers, composed of 羽 [feathers] with 堯 [yáo] giving the sound; in ancient writing it was written as 曉).
