莖榦(上幸耕反廣雅草本曰莖說文枝主也從草巠音經聲也下干罕反說文樹枝也從木倝岡岸反考聲木楨也又通去聲呼非文意不取經中有從干作幹或從草作𦼮皆非)。

莖榦 [Stems and trunks] (The first character is xing + geng fan. The Guangya says: 'The stalks of herbaceous plants are called 莖.' The Shuowen says: 'The primary stem of branches.' It is from 艸 [grass] with 巠, pronounced jing, as phonetic. The second character is gan + han fan. The Shuowen says: 'The branch of a tree.' It is from 木 [wood] with 倝, gang + an fan, [as phonetic]. The Kaosheng says: 'The frame-post of a tree.' It is also colloquially pronounced in the departing tone, but this is not the meaning of the text and is not adopted. In the sūtras it is written with 干 as 幹 or with 艸 as 𦼮, both of which are incorrect).
