或藕（五苟反考聲蓮根也爾雅蓮荷芙蕖其根曰藕玉篇作𦸲本草一名水芝丹一名蓮甘可食說文從水作蕅芙蕖根也從草從水果聲也）。

Or lotus root (或藕: [the second character is] pronounced 五 + 苟 fanqie; Kaosheng says: lotus root; Erya says: of the lotus, he, and fuqu, its root is called 藕; Yupian writes it as 𦸲; the Materia Medica calls it shuizhi dan or sweet lotus, which is edible; Shuowen writes it with shui [水] as 蕅, meaning fuqu root; it takes cao [草] and shui [水] as its classifiers and 果 as its phonetic).
