瞽視 ("Blind seeing"): The first character is pronounced with the fanqie 姑 + 午 (gǔ). Kong's commentary on the Classic of Documents states: 'The eyes being unable to distinguish good from bad constitutes gǔ (blindness).' Bao Xian's commentary on the Analects states: 'Gǔ means blind.' The Shuowen jiezi states that it takes the radical 目 (eye) with 鼓 as the phonetic.
