窴噎（上甸堅反爾雅云闐闐盛皃郭璞注云羣行聲也蒼頡篇作寘猶塞也義與闐字同西都賦云寘城溢郭說文亦塞也從穴從真真音之人反下煙結反郭璞注方言云噎猶咽塞也毛詩左傳云噎不能息也說文云噎猶飯窒也從口壹聲錄作闐非也窒音珍栗反）。

窴噎 (the first character is *di[àn]-jiān* fanqie; the *Erya* says: “*Tiántián* (闐闐) is an abundant appearance.” Guo Pu's commentary says: “The sound of a crowd marching.” The *Cangjiepian* writes it as 寘, meaning to block, having the same meaning as the character 闐. The *Western Capital Rhapsody* says: “Packing the city and overflowing the outer walls.” The *Shuowen jiezi* also says: “To block up. It is composed of ‘cave’ (穴) and ‘true’ (真).” 真 is *zh[ī]-rén* fanqie. The second character is *y[ān]-jié* fanqie; Guo Pu's commentary on the *Fangyan* says: “*Yē* (噎) is like being choked and blocked.” The *Classic of Poetry* and the *Zuo tradition* say: “*Yē* means unable to breathe.” The *Shuowen jiezi* says: “*Yē* is like food choking. It is composed of ‘mouth’ (口) with *yī* (壹) as phonetic.” The catalogue writes it as 闐, which is incorrect. *Zhì* (窒) is *zh[ēn]-lì* fanqie).
