掩雲（淹撿反毛詩傳云淹謂陰雲皃也廣雅云大陰也說文從水弇聲廣蒼從雨作[雨/(電-雨+大)]玉篇從廾作弇音義並同錄從水作淹俗同）。

掩雲 ("Covering clouds"): Pronounced with the fanqie 淹 + 撿 (yǎn). The Mao Commentary on the Classic of Poetry states: 'Yān describes the appearance of dark overcast clouds.' The Guangya states: 'It means heavily overcast.' The Shuowen jiezi states that it takes the radical 水 (water) with 弇 as the phonetic. The Guangcang writes it with the radical 雨 (rain) as [雨/(電-雨+大)]. The Yupian writes it with the radical 廾 as 弇. Their sounds and meanings are both identical. The catalogue text writes it with 水 as 淹, which is vulgar usage and identical.
