Iron ore (鐵鑛: the first character is pronounced *tian* + *jie* [tiě], the correct character for iron [鐵]. The second character is pronounced *gu* + *meng* [kuàng]. Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the *Book of Rites* says: '礦 refers to the unrefined raw state of gold, jade, copper, iron, and the like.'
