Upheaval and turmoil (版盪): the first character has the fanqie 上簡 [bǎn]; the second has the fanqie 唐朗 [dàng]. The Kaosheng states: '版 means perverse and deviating.' Du's Commentary on the Zuo zhuan states: '盪 means shaking; it also means turbulent movement.' The Shuowen jiezi states: '版 means to split/divide; composed of 片 with 反 phonophore; also written with 𨸏 as 阪.' The Shuowen states: '盪 is composed of 皿 with 湯 phonophore.'
