杖鉞（音越司馬法周左杖黃戌右把白旄說文戉大斧也正作戉傳從金作鉞通用也）。

Holding a battle-axe (杖鉞): pronounced 越 [yuè]. The Simafa states: 'The Zhou held the yellow battle-axe in the left hand and gripped the white banner in the right.' The Shuowen jiezi states: '戉 is a large battle-axe; properly written 戉.' In transmission, written with 金 ('metal') as 鉞, which is used interchangeably.
