䢼亭湖（上音恭此洞亭湖名也本無正字晉書郭璞傳中作䢼亭今譯經圖記中從人作䣏亭書寫誤也流俗相傳見今呼為宮亭湖盖是吳楚語訛難為准定此即洞亭湖也案曹氏郡國志云在洪州豫章郡年代久遠罕究其源且依見文略為訓釋）。

䢼亭湖 (the upper character is pronounced gong. This is the name of Lake Dongting. Originally it had no standard character. In the Jinshu, the biography of Guo Pu writes it as 䢼亭. In the present Yijing tuji, it is written with the person radical as 䣏亭, which is a scribal error. Common tradition today calls it Lake Gongting; this is perhaps an erroneous dialectal pronunciation of Wu and Chu, making it difficult to establish with certainty. This is indeed Lake Dongting. According to investigation, Cao's Junguozhi states that it is located in Yuzhang commandery of Hongzhou. From antiquity, its origins have rarely been investigated thoroughly; here we briefly explain it according to the text at hand.)
