謗黷（上博浪反杜注左傳云謗毀也國語云問謗譽於路人又曰厲王虐國人謗之說文從言旁聲下同屋反孔注尚書云黷猶慢也國語云黷則生怨說文從黑賣聲也）。

Slandering and defiling [謗黷] (The upper character is 博 plus 浪 fanqie. Du's commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* states: "謗 means to defame." The *Guoyu* states: "Asking passersby on the road about slander and praise"; and also: "King Li was cruel, and the people of the state slandered him." The *Shuowen* has it with 'speech' [言] and 旁 phonetic. The lower character is 同 plus 屋 fanqie. Kong's commentary on the *Shangshu* states: "黷 is like disrespect." The *Guoyu* states: "Disrespect breeds resentment." The *Shuowen* has it with 'black' [黑] and 賣 phonetic).
