Able to save (堪濟: [堪 is] ku-gan fan [kān]. The Mao commentary on the Shijing says: “Kan means capable.” Kong [Anguo]'s commentary on the Shangshu says: “It means to be able.” The Kaosheng says: “It means to oversee; to support.” The Shuowen [jiezi] says: “Formed with 土 ('earth') and shen phonetic.” In the text of the treatise, written with 戈 as 戡 is an error).
