Dark and obscured (烏黮: [黮 is] tu-gan fan [dàn]. Gu Yewang says: “Checking the Chuci, it says: 'Andan means not bright or pure.'” The Shuowen [jiezi] says: “Dan is the blackness of mulberries. Formed with 黑 ('black') and shen phonetic.” 黤 is pronounced wu-gan fan [yǎn]).
