淡薄（上覃敢反鄭注禮記云淡味薄也說文從水炎聲下旁各反蒼頡篇云薄微也說文從草溥聲論文從水作泊泊止也非此義也）。

Bland and thin (淡薄, the first char. fanqie: 覃敢; Zheng's commentary on the Liji says, '淡 means thin in flavor.' The Shuowen jiezi says it is formed from 水 with 炎 as phonetic. The second char. fanqie: 旁各; the Cangjiepian says, '薄 means slight.' The Shuowen jiezi says it is formed from 艸 with 溥 as phonetic. The treatise text writes it with 水 as 泊; 泊 means to halt, which is not the meaning here).
