八紘（下話萠反許叔重注曰紘維也亦𠕀紉也淮南子云知八紘九野之形埒也許叔重注曰紘亦維也楊雄曰燭六合埒八紘是也古今正字從糸厷聲云從弘作紭埒音劣）。

八紘 (The second syllable has the fanqie 話萠 [hóng]. Xu Shuzhong's (Xu Shen's) commentary says: "紘 [hóng] means a binding cord; it also means a vast band." The Huainanzi says: "Knowing the form and bounds of the eight vast cord-boundaries and the nine regions." Xu Shuzhong's commentary says: "紘 also means a binding cord." Yang Xiong says: "Illuminating the six coordinates, delimiting the eight outer cord-boundaries," which is this. The Gujin zhengzi says it takes 糸 [mì] as semantic and 厷 [gōng] as phonetic, noting that writing it with 弘 as 紭 is also found. 埒 is pronounced 劣 [liè].)
