之酋（就由反鄭注禮記云酋長也漢書斬羌虜大酋文頴曰胡名大師為酋如中國言魁師也文字典說古今正字並從酉半水見於上會意字也）。

之酋 (The fanqie is 就由 [qiú]. Zheng [Xuan's] commentary to the Liji says: "酋 [qiú] means a chief/leader." The Hanshu speaks of 'beheading the grand chieftain of the Qiang barbarians'. Wen Ying says: "The Hu barbarians call a grand commander a 酋 [qiú], just as in China one says a chief commander." The Wenzi dian说 and Gujin zhengzi both say it takes 酉 with water visible above; it is an ideographic character.)
