東膠 (jiao + you [jiǎo]. The Kaosheng says: "Jiaodong is the name of a river in Donglai." The Record of Rites says: "The people of Yin nourished the elders of the state in the Eastern Jiaoxiang." Zheng's commentary says: "The Eastern Jiao was also the name of the Imperial Academy (Daxue)." The Shuowen [notes that it] derives from 肉 [flesh] with 翏 as phonetic.)
