蝙蝠（上閉綿反下風目反爾雅云蝙蝠服翼也方言云自關而東云服翼也關西秦隴又曰蝙蝠也古今正字云蝙蝠二字皆從虫扁畐聲形聲字也扁音扁畐丕逼反）。

Bat (蝙蝠: the first [character] is *bi-mian* [b- + -iān = biān] in fanqie; the second is *feng-mu* [f- + -ú = fú] in fanqie; the Erya says: “The 蝙蝠 is the fuyi [winged-creature].” The Fangyan says: “From the Pass eastward it is called fuyi; west of the Pass, in Qin and Long, it is also called bianfu.” The Gujin zhengzi says: “The two characters 蝙蝠 are both categorized under 'insect' (虫), with 扁 and 畐 as phonetics; they are phono-semantic characters; 扁 is pronounced *bian* [biǎn], and 畐 is *pi-bi* [p- + -ì = fú] in fanqie”).
