Reed ash (葭灰: [the first character is] *jia-xia* [j- + -iā = jiā] in fanqie; Guo Pu’s commentary on the Erya says: “葭 is the reed (蘆葦).” Mao’s Commentary on the Odes says: “葭 is also the reed.” The Shuowen says: “Categorized under 'grass' with 叚 as phonetic”).
