崢嶸（上仕耕反下獲萌反許叔重注淮南子云崢嶸山谷高險貌也廣雅云崢嶸深冥高峻也說文正作崝訓與上同二字並從山爭榮皆聲也）。

崢嶸 [Towering and precipitous] (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 仕耕. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 獲萌. Xu Shuzhong's [Xu Shen's] commentary on the Huainanzi says: '崢嶸 describes the lofty and perilous appearance of mountains and valleys.' The Guangya says: '崢嶸 means profound, deep, high, and precipitous.' The Shuowen correctly gives 崝, with the same explanation as above. Both characters take 山 [mountain] as semantic classifier, with 爭 and 榮 as phonetics).
