Ashamed of gold (忸金): [The first character is pronounced] *nü* + *liu* fan. Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: 'Ashamed and blushing (忸怩) is a bashful color upon the face.' The Guangya says: 'It means sorrow and lamentation.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'It is formed with [the semantic classifier] heart (心) and the phonetic component *shen* (甚).'
