Taming the unruly (馴巨): [The first character is pronounced] *xun* + *zun* fan. The Boya says: 'To tame (馴) means to domesticate and familiarize birds and beasts.' Sima Biao's commentary on the Zhuangzi says: '馴 means to follow/comply.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'It is formed with [the semantic classifier] horse (馬) and the phonetic component *chuan* (川).'
