序讚（下左漢反郭注方言云讚頌所以解釋物理也釋名云讚稱人之美者也顧野王云讚須所以佐助導引褒揚其德也古今正字從言贊聲贊音同上傳文作讚俗字）。

序讚 (the second character has the fanqie: 左 + 漢 [zàn]). Guo's commentary on the Fangyan says: 'Eulogies (zàn) and hymns are that by which the principles of things are explained.' The Shiming says: 'A zàn is what praises a person's excellence.' Gu Yewang says: 'A zàn assists and guides, extolling someone's virtue.' The Gujin zhengzi [indicates that] it takes 言 as radical and 贊 as phonetic; 贊 has the same pronunciation as above. In textual transmission it is written as 讚, which is a popular character.
