The Shuowen says: 'Xǐ is a sandal (履).' The Zhuangzi says: 'Yuan Xian slipped on sandals and leaned on a pear-wood staff.' The Cang Jie pian says: 'Xǐ also means dragging sandals and walking slowly.' Note that革躧 (leather sandals) are the leather shoes worn by Brahmins nowadays: they have leather soles and three straps, without retaining cords or back heels; hence they are named leather sandals. The Shenglei writes it as 屣, identical to the transmitted text; sandals (屨) has the fanqie 俱 + 遇 [jù].
